Mother Goddess is inspired by the curves, power, knowledge and the femme that radiates out from Greek and Roman statues. Muses for this specific piece were Athena, Hera, and most dominantly Gaia, the Mother Earth, captured by the life giving breasts.
Goddess statues from the ancient times have always fascinated and resonated within me. They do not have the conventional features of what we would call womanly – they have muscles and are carved from stone, yet there is something so delicate, elegant and femme about them. They is nothing unrealistic about how ‘woman’ is displayed in these statues, yet they effortlessly succeed at showing the goddess side of woman. That strong femininity coming with ease is what this piece captures, and makes a statement about, through a modern twist on the artistic presentation.
