About the Artist
Evangelene is a Sri Lankan/Canadian living in Denmark.
Her earliest introduction to art was through her mother, who maintains a strong influence in her life as well as art.
Evangelene endeavours to explore various subjects such as the quiet strength of women, solitude, loneliness, and nature through her paintings and collages . She does this by portraying them in a simple, compelling way, in often stark, but familiar settings. Her art draws from her roots in South Asia, especially the vivid, jewel toned colours, allusions to culture and philosophy, and are tinged by nostalgic memories and experiences. Some of her works also depict scenes and wildlife from Sri Lanka.
Evangelene has exhibited her art in Toronto, Canada, and in Denmark. Her painting was the featured image of the HopeNow exhibition on human trafficking in 2017, held at the Arbejdermuseet in Copenhagen.
